Legislative Programs

The Chamber’s Government Relations Committee presents several Legislative Programs throughout the year.  They include, but are not limited to:  a Candidate’s Forum, a Legislative Reception and Connecticut Business Day.

At the Candidate’s Forum, candidates for the State House and Senate discuss various business issues.  The Chamber’s lobbyist, Marshall Collins has served as moderator for past programs.  The audience invited to pose questions during a question and answer period.  The Candidate’s Forum is held during October of election years for State House and Senate.

The Legislative Reception is an annual event held to recognize our State Representatives and Senators for their work during the Legislative Session.  Legislators are given the opportunity to speak briefly to the audience followed by a question and answer period.  Networking opportunities with the Legislators prior to and after the formal program are also available.

Northwest Connecticut’s Chamber has historically had the most representation of all chambers of commerce at the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Connecticut Business Day.  Connecticut Business Day is normally held in March at the State Capitol.  Chamber members are again given the opportunity to meet with their State Elected Officials and attend the Governor’s State of the State Address.

The Government Relations Committee is one of the Chamber’s most active and dedicated committees.  Members work on an Annual Legislative Agenda, which highlights areas of concern for the business community of Northwest Connecticut.  The Agenda, which is put before the Chamber’s Board of Directors for approval, is then presented to the State Legislative delegation.
