O&G Industries, Inc., an innovative and diversified construction and materials company based in Torrington, CT, is looking to the future and embarking on a search for a Fleet Maintenance and Operations Leader to begin the succession process.

This is a significant leadership role based in Torrington and reports directly to ownership.

This outreach is part of our long-term strategic planning and will allow us to explore candidates who can lead the team into the future. Candidates will embody our vision and the core values behind it to positively influence the division.

The Repair Maintenance Division is a pivotal aspect of O&G’s operations, playing a vital role in optimizing and monitoring fleet (vehicles and equipment) activities to enhance operational efficiency.

This role plans, directs and oversees all fleet and operations assets to generate the most long-term value.

The successful candidate will lead a talented and respected repair maintenance division made up of six (6) repair facilities located throughout CT.

Core Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Create and maintain repair division performance standards such as repair times and other key performance indicators.
  • Prioritize, schedule, and document maintenance work across the entire fleet that includes a deep understanding of diagnostic software required to efficiently address a new generation of equipment and trucks.
  • Work collaboratively with ownership and fixed/field leadership to research and source vehicles and equipment to find the most favorable option for consideration – lease versus buy.
  • Purchase, inventory, and distribute smaller equipment. This includes supply chain management and inventory control, carry costs of inventory, ability to compute cost-benefit of stocking big tickets items relative to cost of downtime, and the key considerations around whether to use rebuilt parts.
  • Collaborate with accounting to analyze the fleet’s usage and overall condition, in addition to oversight of fuel costs as it relates to total operating cost.
  • Ensure compliance to DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA rules/regulations with a proven dedication to safety – OSHA 10 certification required.
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DEEP and other government agencies related to fuel storage, fuel transportation, and vehicle/equipment fueling.
  • Create and assure the accuracy of parts inventories and cost versus budget including loss prevention protocols.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for fleet inventory.
  • Set standards to interview, train, and coach repair division workforce – be a strong leader for O&G’s employee retention efforts.
  • Assess internal customer equipment needs and set appropriate expectations for customers to ensure no surprises when it comes to service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the General Superintendent to distribute equipment based on job needs.

What we look for:

  • 15+ years of related experience in fleet management and/or fleet operations
  • 10 years’ experience in diesel engine preventive maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrated experience with engine diagnostic application tools
  • Knowledge and application of DOT and FMCSR regulations
  • Communication Proficiency (oral and written)
  • Must be detail-oriented; understand workflows; be highly organized; able to multitask
  • Maintain relationships with our key external business partners
  • Customer Focus (internal and external)
  • Technology Proficient
  • Works well under pressure
  • Available to travel to repair shops on a regular basis
  • Proven experience in identifying, developing, and motivating the workforce
