About The Chamber

The Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc. is the oldest business organization in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut. Incorporated in 1901, the Chamber’s membership is nearing 700 companies & organizations.

The purpose of the Chamber is to advance the general welfare and prosperity of Northwest Connecticut so that its citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper. All necessary means of promotion shall be provided and particular attention and emphasis shall be given to the economic, civic, commercial, cultural, industrial and educational interests of the area.

The government and policy-making responsibilities of the Chamber are vested in the Board of Directors, which control its property, is responsible for its finance and direct its affairs. The Board of Directors is composed of:

  • Twenty-one (21) members, one-third of whom are elected annually to serve for three (3) years and Officers (unless the officer is then serving as a member of the Board of Directors);
  • The Officers (Chairman of the Board, Vice Chairman of the Board, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary and Immediate Past Chairman of the Board);
  • The Chairman of the Membership Committee, unless the Chairman is then serving as a member of the Board of Directors;
  • The Chairman of the Government Relations Committee, unless the Chairman is then serving as a member of the Board of Directors; and,
  • The Chairman of the Insurance Committee, unless the Chairman is then serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is elected at the Chamber’s Annual Business Meeting, which is held during the first quarter of the year.

The Chamber’s mission, to promote economic growth while enhancing the quality of life in Northwest Connecticut was adopted by the Board of Directors and is supported by the following goals:

  • To increase the awareness of the economic, educational, cultural and civic opportunities available within Northwest Connecticut.
  • To ensure the financial stability of the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc.
  • To increase educational opportunities for members of the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc.
  • To enhance the prominence of the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc. in Northwest Connecticut; to enhance the prominence of Northwest Connecticut on a state and national level.
  • To enhance the value of membership in the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc.
  • To attract and retain commerce to Northwest Connecticut.
